Thanksgiving and preparing for Christmas
What comes to mind in November is Thanksgiving and preparing for Christmas. It is that time of the year that our hearts are filled with gratitude.
As this time comes around though, let’s also remember and applaud those who go the extra mile to make the world a better place for those in need. Those who recognize that there are so many people in this world who do not get the same luxuries as many of us have.
So during this season of gratitude, I will like to say a big thank you to Mr. Manny Ohonme, Founder of Samaritans’ Feet who goes around the world providing shoes to children around the world who do not have shoes.
I first met Mr. Manny when I was about seven years old. My mom had a meeting with him at his office and I listen as he shared with my mom the story behind Samaritans’ Feet. Mr. Manny shared his story about growing up in Nigerian he never had a pair of shoes. He would walk and run around the neighborhood barefoot. As I listened, I wonder how that was possible. I could not understand how he went from day to day barefoot. At the age of nine, he received his first pair of shoes from a stranger, an American missionary who had visited his hometown in Nigerian. He was filled with joy when he received his first of shoes. It is this experience and his love for humanity that he decided to start an organization that will raise awareness for millions of children around the world who walk barefoot every day.
In 2003, Mr. Manny founded Samaritan’s Feet and since then he along with his family and friends have distributed more than 6.5 million pairs of shoes in 91 countries and 366 cities in the US.
In a few weeks, we will be rushing to the store to buy Christmas presents for our loved ones. As you do please remember that there are kids who won’t get any present on Christmas. So during this season of gratitude, how about getting a pair of shoes for a child in need so they feel the abundant joy that comes with ripping the paper to find a surprise underneath. Giving to others will not only leave them with gratitude but will leave you more grateful for the ability to love.
At this season of gratitude, Mr. Manny I just want to say thank you for making the world a better place for children around the world. Thank you for being a role model for others and also for giving people the opportunity to serve.
